The hot and cold water mixing tap has a sleeve (1) with diametrically opposite ports for the inlet of the hot or cold water. A plastic sleeve (12) is retained by a lower disc (16) provided with holes (21) and an upper disc (23). These discs are held together by a bolt (17) which is retained by locknuts (24) and fixed to the operating lever (26). Lifting the lever upwards presses the sleeve downwards and opens the tap. Rotating the lever controls the ratio of hot to cold water. The plastic sleeve (12) is pressed against the sleeve by a rubber bush (13) which is axially compressed by the bolt (17). This axial compression causes the bush (13) to expand radially and maintain an adequate sealing pressure on the plastic sleeve.
