The small-animal pen is divided up into a number of compartments (10) alongside and above each other. The surfaces of the cages are coated with a seamless cohesive plastic layer. The front side of the cages have plastic-coated vertical struts (16) with attachments (18) for the door bolts (17) and catches (27) for the doors (19). Pivot pins fit into holes (20) moulded into the plastic layer. The bottom of each cage is formed of a grille (21) beneath which are drawer-type troughs for catching the droppings, and made of plastic. The supports (23) for the troughs are strips made of plastic and positioned on the inner surfaces of the outer side walls (14) and on the insides of partitions (13). Slits in the back walls are connected to gutters and a downpipe.
