A moulding pressed in resin-impregnated paper, veneer or the like is, by the invention, given a decorative covering of felt; the felt is consolidated in one direction and covers the whole moulding without joints or pleats. The moulding (possibly of glass-fibre-reinforced polyester) is of a uniform thickness of 25. - 7.5 (pref. 3-5)mm, and the consolidated felt of a uniform thickness of 1-4 (pref. 1-3) mm and density 150-1000 (pref. 200-450) kg/m3. The felted material must withstand 170 degrees C, and is pref. of polyamide or thermoplastic polyester; it has a grained surface, which is kept free of the underlying plastic in which the lower-lying threads are anchored. After the moulding has been formed at 130-190 degrees C and 30-100 kg/cm2, the press is opened, a film of binder, and then the felt, inserted, and the press closed again: pressure, this time =2 (pref. =1) kg/cm2, is applied for 5-50 (pref. 10-30) seconds.
|
