<p>Process for treatment of sewage sludge comprises mixing the sludge with unslaked, burnt lime (CaO). The treated sludge is useful as a complete fertiliser which does not alter soil pH. Pref. 1 pt. 90-95 % burnt lime per 25-30 pts. sewage sludge is used. The amt. of lime added is sufficient to produce a dry mass. Heat generated during mixing raises the temp. to 80-120 degrees C and this in combination with the caustic action of the lime kills pathogenic bacterial.</p> |
