Textile sheet materials contg. fibres with OH or NH gps. are first impregnated with a liq. contg. (a) a fibre-reactive cpd. which is also a solvent for dispersion dyes, (b) a catalyst for condensation of (a) with the fibres, and opt. (c) a fibre-swelling agent and a cross-linking agent to improve crease-resistance. Pref. (a) is formaldehyde deriv. of an organic N cpd. e.g. amide, urea or urethane, and (b) is an acid or alkali Used on cellulose or polyamide fibres or blends with other fibres, in the form of woven, non-woven or knitted fabrics, carpets, etc. and on films, improved fastness to wet treatments and rubbing, higher dye yield, improved handle, no unpleasant smell, and excellent crease-resistance are obtd.
