<p>The towing unit has dampers on the front and rear axles (9, 12) linked by compensating lines so that when the one damper is moved in one direction the other one moves in the opposite way. The trailer rear axle has similar, but separate dampers, which are linked to a second set of dampers (13) on the rear axle of the towing unit. The effect of the two systems is that the whole unit operates as a semi rigid structure w.r.t. road irregularities. The magnitude of flexing about the coupling joint is considerably reduced, thus providing a smoother ride and less wear on the coupling. Dynamic stability is enhanced, enabling the unit to be braked more effectively.</p> |
