The Japanese chess type game or 'shogi' has pieces that bear inscriptions informing the player of that piece's character and permitted range of movement, and utilizes a board with differentially marked areas defining the antagonistic territories. Pref the marks defining permitted movements are provided in an area surrounding the character symbol, and take the form of a suitably marked duplication of a section of the chequered board, or a similarly marked circle. Symbols can be in Japanese or any other language and sited on a visible upper surface of a piece's base plate. |
