This folding clothes hanger has tubular centre piece (11) fixed to the hook. In this centre piece are slots (23) in which slides a lock (24). Between the closed end of the tube and the arm (24), is a coil spring (25). At the lower end of the tube are attachment plates (14, 15) on which the hanger arm (12, 13) pivot. Each hanger arm (12, 13) has en extension flap (26, 27). When the hanger arms (12, 13) are swung upwards into position, the extension flaps (26, 27) contact the lock bar (24) so that the bar slides up the inclined edge (33, 34) to be forced by the spring (25) into the cutouts (28, 29) in the flaps (26, 27). By using an operating knob to push the lock bar upwards out of the flap cutout.
