Heat insulating element for building surfaces - has evacuated foil or sheet metal covered box filled with insulating distance pieces

The insulating elements in the form of boxes are esp. used in the building industry. The boxes are made from foil or sheet metal. The material used for the boxes has high resistance against heat conductance. The boxes are flat and have stepped edges so that the sides of the boxes can overlap, when placed on a surface to be insulated. The boxes are evacuated after the two shells which form a box are joined together. To prevent the boxes from collapsing under external pressure, they are filled with distance pieces made from insulating material.
