Preferably the washing liquor is at 30‹-100‹ C. at pH value of 3 to 9. Purification of the water being effected by fluidized bed or fixed bed processes. Anionic dyes and optical brighteners may be removed from the wash water by cationically modified cellulose materials in which the hydroxyl groups have been at least partially replaced by quaternary ammonium groups of formula in which Alk is a C 1-5 alkyl radical, An- is an anion by reaction with an epoxypropylammonium salt.
