<p>1455184 Forming reference plane of electromagnetic radiation J R TRICE 4 Feb 1974 [8 Feb 1973] 05024/74 Heading G1F [Also in Divisions G2 and G3] In a method and apparatus for forming a reference plane of electromagnetic radiation a narrow collimated beam 52, Fig. 1, e.g. of monochromatic or coherent light, is directed on to a reflector 55 to be reflected therefrom in a radially diverging array 53 forming the reference plane. A laser tube on a tripod or stand is aligned directly or via a reflector, Fig. 7 (not shown), with the axis of the cone which may be supported on a ceiling or a wall whereby the edge of the plane is defined by vertical or horizontal lines of light useful in installing heavy machines or in the building industry. The cone may be mounted to be adjustable or tiltable, and if the beam is of donut section the cone may be truncated. The cone may have non-reflective parts or removable sections, Fig. 12 (not shown). In Fig. 14 the beam 214 passes along a solid transparent tube the end of which is conically recessed and reflective at 212 to form radial rays 215. The invention may also be used in a fibre-optic transmission system to explore veins and arteries.</p> |
