Equalizing pipes, such as 7a, 7b, 7c, are connected between corresponding stages of two or more multi-stage axial-flow, radial-flow or mixed-flow compressors or centrifugal pumps, coupled in parallel to a common delivery line 5, to ensure that the pressure rises in the corresponding stages remain equal throughout the working range. This prevents a return flow from one compressor or pump to the other when the delivery volume is low. Where there are a large number of stages, equalizing pipes may be provided only at, say, alternate stages. |
