<p>The machine bores holes through banks, under roads, etc. simultaneously lining the hole with a pipe. Water or other flushing liquid is delivered into the machine housing, and a pipe discharges the loosened spoil mixed with the water. A second discharge pipe is also provided, its diameter being appreciably greater than that of the first one, and a valve can be used tosshut the second pipe off. There may be a cutter head in bearings in the housing equipped with a stirring arm passing across the mouths of the discharge pipes. A further valve can be mounted in the second discharge pipe downstream of the first one, preceded by a strainer to arrest any large particles.</p> |
