<p>The multiphase power switch for high voltages is of the type where each phase has a switch unit projecting through an insulating sleeve in a metal container and two connections to each switch element also projecting through the wall. Contacting elements are provided in the form of pairs of elements separated by an insulator having the shape or hollow caps facing each other. The switch units for all the phases are housed in a single cylindrical container and each pair of contact bridges lies with its centre line along the acis of the cylinder of a line parallel to it. The design is based on the finding that the contact bridge element act as potential screens, so that a large spacing between them is not necessary.</p> |
