An improvement in the production of beta -chloroethyltrichlorosilane by reacting hydrogen chloride with vinyl trichlorosilane in the presence of aluminum chloride at elevated pressure at temperatures between 0 DEG and 90 DEG C is disclosed, which comprises using the aluminium chloride which remains in the reaction vessel after separating off the beta -chloroethyltrichlorosilane, and which still contains beta -chloroethyltrichlorosilane, directly for the next reaction.
