<p>1486429 Supplying tyre components to building drums GENERAL TIRE & RUBBER CO 16 Sept 1974 [16 Oct 1973] 40232/74 Heading B7C Apparatus for supplying a belt or breaker strip to a tyre building drum comprises a belt guide roll 65 defining a belt strip receiving groove 92 of a width x corresponding to the width of the strip, a first drive ring 84 rotatable with the roll 65, a second drive ring 85 rotatable with the drum, the rings having a ratio of diameters substantially equal to the ratio of diameters of the groove base and the drum whereby the belt guide roll is driven by rotation of the building drum, when the rings are in frictional engagement, at substantially the same surface velocity as the surface velocity of the drum during application of the belt strip. As illustrated two belt guide rolls 63, 65 are provided and are mounted in a frame 83 which is advanced towards the drum (not shown) by manual or automatic actuation of air cylinder 75. During such motion an air clutch associated with roller 61 is engaged to brake the chain 68 so that the guide rolls roll along the strip. At the end of such advance a switch is operated to disengage the air clutch and ring 84 of roll 65 is now in frictional engagement with ring 85. An air motor 67 assists in reducing to a virtually negligible amount the friction force and inertia to be overcome in rollers 58, 61 and rolls 63, 65 by the drive to be imparted to roll 65 by the drum. After spotting of the belt strip on the drum, the latter is actuated and the strip is advanced by rollers 58, 61, 63 and 65, until the drum has completed one revolution. The strip is cut and the ends of the cut-off strip portion is manually stitched. The apparatus further comprises a strip supply roll driven by electric motor 41 which is controlled by a potentiometer 51 mechanically controlled by a dancer roller 45 journalled on a pivoted arm 46. Interruption of light beam from a source 86 by roller 45 causes the motor 41 to stop. A second belt strip supply apparatus, substantially identical to that disclosed above is also mounted in frame 14/15 which frame is movable on rails 18, 19 to position the two apparatuses sequentially in alignment with the building drum.</p> |
