Cleaning spaces between teeth - using forked holder with silk thread stretched between arms and retained in notches

The holder is used for cleaning the spaces and crevices between a person's teeth by means of a thread of silk (E) stretch between the arms (C, G) of a forked holder. This holder has a straight handle (K), the forked arms of the head being at an angle to it. A toothpick (3) is on the other end of the handle. A notch (D, F) is cut into the end of each arm, these locating the silk thread. One end (A) of this is held against the handle by the thumb. The other end (J), after stretching over the arms, is wound (I) round the neck of the fork.
