The high reduction gearbox is partic. for electrically operated window mechanisms in motor vehicles, having a motor driven worm meshing with a worm wheel, and a shaft carrying a driving pinion. A clutch plate (11) is mounted on the shaft (2) and bears against a flat face (14) on the worm wheel (8), which can turn on the shaft. When this latter is rotated by a handle the clutch is disengaged by sliding a selector sleeve (15) on the shaft in opposition to a spring (18). The handle can be so arranged that on turning it strikes the sleeve and slides it during the beginning of the turning movement.
