Appts. for heat treating metals in glow discharge plasma - where metal is the anode inside a cathode coil

Appts. is for the heat treatment of a metal forming the anode in a glow discharge plasma which has a cylindrical shape. The plasma is obtd. using a short-circuited coil as the cathode. The axis of the coil pref. coincides with the principal axis of the workpiece forming the anode; and the workpiece is pref. earthed. Used e.g. in glow discharge nitriding. A stable plasma is obtd. so metal workpieces can be simply and reliably to high temps. and held for long for long periods.
