<p>Storage-stable curable unsatd. polyester resin compsns. contain 0.1-30 wt. % of an organotin cpd. of formula R1R2R3SnX. In the formula, R1-R3 are opt. unsatd. 1-8C alkyl or aryl; X is either (a) Cl, F, OH, aroyloxy or R1R2R3SnY-, Y is an aromatic dicarboxylic acid residue; or (b) Cl, F, OH, aroyloxy, an opt. unsatd. aliphatic carboxylic acid residue or R1R2R3SnY1-, Y1 is as defined for Y or is an opt. unsatd. aliphatic dicarboxylic acid residue. When X is of type (a), the polyester is derived from (i) a mixt. of an alpha, beta-unsatd. dicarboxylic acid and one or more aromatic, aliphatic and/or cycloaliphatic dicarboxylic acids; (ii) a dihydric aliphatic alcohol; and (iii) styrene or a styrene deriv. When X is of type (b), the polyester is derived from (i) an alpha, beta-unsatd. dicarboxylic acid and (ii) one or more cycloaliphatic and/or aromatic, and opt. also aliphatic, diols. Resin compsns. can be used as casting resins, anti-fouling gel coats, laminates and moulding compounds. The compsns. are resistant to microbiological corrosion by bacteria and fungi.</p> |
