Alumina components with increased mechanical strength - obtd. by quenching from high temp. into oil:water emulsion

The emulsion may consist of oil and aq. solns. of any type; any any type of solids may be mixed with the emulsion. Used in mfg. switches, insulators, and other electrotechnical components, where quenching increases the strength of the alumina; and also in bio-medical technology. The invention permits quenching without cracking. Typically after quenching the bending strength increases from approx. 380 to 884 MN/m2.
