NEOMYCIN FATTY ACID SALT CONTAINING SURGICAL SUTURES Soft, pliable polyfilamentous surgical sutures with knottability characteristics approaching the knottability characteristics of standard surgical silk and having a prophylactic and therapeutic effect against bacterial infections are prepared by providing throughout and onto the surface the body of the suture a neomycin salt of a fatty acid having 12-18 carbon atoms. In a preferred embodiment, a soft, pliable, biocidal polyfilamentous suture approaching or equal to the excellent. knotting characteristics of standard surgical silk is provided by introducing into the body and onto the surface of the surgical suture a combination of wax and the neomycin fatty acid salt. |
