Paste material roll gap seal - using hollow wedge shaped shields on intake forming peripheral air cushions

The outside faces of a roll gap can be sealed in the processing of pastes such as starch or milk powder between revolving rolls by arranging a wedge-shaped shield at the intake. The shield is hollow and has outlet openings within the wedge-shaped areas. Compressed air admitted to the shield can thus from an air cushion between shield and peripheral roll surface. This prevents the incrustation of the wedge by penetrating particles which cause a rapid water of the roll surfaces. The sealing of the roll gap is also improved by the wedge-shaped shield.
