The engine start system comprises two switches arranged in series of which the first is operated in the usual manner by means of an ignition key whilst the second (3) is used for the actual starting or switching-off of the engine, the arrangement being such that the first switch closes the circuit required for the second switch to function. The second switch is pref. arranged on the gear lever (1) and may be actuated by a separate element (5) or by rotating the knob (7) on the lever. The element (5) may have three positions for start. Neutral and engine-off, with spring return to its neutral position.
