1450896 Recovery of nickel values SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCUAPPIJ BV 15 Nov 1973 [17 Nov 1972] 53198/72 Heading C1A Nickel values are extracted from an ammoniacal solution containing at least 5 g./l. nickel, not more than 100 g./l. ammonium salt and also cobalt (III) in a Ni : Co ratio wt. of at least 10 : 1, by contacting the solution with a solution of C 6 -C 20 tertiarylalkane monocarboxylic acids in a water-immiscible organic solvent, the molar concentration of acid being at least 0À1 M, the initial volume ratio organic phase : aqueous phase is at least 2 : 1. The extraction temperature is preferably 10-50‹ C. and the ammoniacal solution is suitably adjusted to pH 7À5-11 before extraction by means of CO 2 . Suitable organic solvents are 1,2-dichloroethane, aliphatic alcohols or ethers, or hydrocarbon oils, e.g. naphtha or kerosine. The extraction may be continuously counter-current, and nickel may be recovered from the organic phase as nitrate or sulphate by stripping with acid. |
