1489503 Stabilizing polymers; modified epoxy resins TOKUYAMA SEKISUI KOGYO KK 26 March 1975 [27 March 1974] 12734/75 Headings C3P and C3B The weatherability of a synthetic resin (I) is improved by addition to 100 parts by wt. of I of 0À1-5 parts by wt. of a reaction product (II) of an epoxy resin (III) with cinnamic acid,α- methylcinnamic acid or o-coumaric acid (ohydroxycinnamic acid). I is selected from polyvinyl chloride, graft copolymers by grafting vinyl chloride on to ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymers, ethylene/vinyl chloride copolymers, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, polyacrylic resins and curable unsaturated polyester resins. III may be a glycidyl epoxy resin, an epoxidized vegetable oil or a cycloaliphatic epoxy resin. The preparation of II (of which several are exemplified may be achieved using a stoichiometric deficiency of the cinnamic acid.
