1489291 Vehicle roof operating mechanism WEATHERSHIELDS Ltd 24 May 1976 [6 June 1975] 24350/75 Heading E2M In a mechanism for opening a vehicle roof assembly provided with a flexible fabric covering (not shown) supported by cross members adapted to slide on guides extending along each side of an opening, the front end of the covering being attached to a transverse flap 16 which is pivotally attached to a front cross member 1 and adapted to be drawn downwardly into close sealing engagement with the roof around the front end of the opening, a handle-operated roof tightening means is coupled to the flap 16 through a pair of rods 11 which are moved relatively towards and away from each other with respect to the front cross-member 1, the free ends of the rods operating in downwardly depending inclined slots in the flap 16 to tighten the covering and to ensure close sealing engagement with the roof around the front opening. The handle operating mechanism comprises a rotatable boss 3 (Figure 3) and two superimposed plates 6, 7 mounted thereon, the first plate 6 being pivotally connected to an eccentrically mounted hook 8 for engagement with a keeper 9 in a frame at the front of the opening, the second plate 7 being pivotally connected to the rods 11 by fittings 12. The handle 4 may be retracted into the position shown in Figure 4 when the vehicle roof has been closed. |
