The telephone answering circuit for a tape-recording answering machine which is fitted with an automatic dialling mechanism, dials a preselected number on the conclusion of a tape recording of an incoming call. This makes it possible for the subscriber, before leaving his premises, to feed into the dialling mechanism an alternative number at which he will be accessible. On the conclusion of a call, the recorded message is immediately relayed to the subscriber on the alternative number. The system can be used in the case of a subscriber in a suitably equipped automobile.
