1365667 Oxidation of sulphides INTERNATIONAL NICKEL CO OF CANADA Ltd 7 May 1973 [8 May 1972] 21603/73 Heading C1A Sulphide containing materials are oxidized with the production of elemental S in an aqueous slurry to which a water-immiscible sulphur-solvent, preferably a chlorinated hydrocarbon, is added. The oxidation is preferably effected by O2 at above 110‹ C. and at a partial pressure of 10-30 atmospheres whilst the slurry is vigorously agitated. After oxidation the solvent may be allowed to separate and the S to crystallize. The starting material should preferably be able to pass a 100 mesh Tyler screen. The sulphide materials may contain Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Pb, Co, Sn, Ru, As and Sb. A list of suitable minerals is given.
|
