1456433 Semi-moist cat food QUAKER OATS CO 21 Jan 1974 [25 June 1973] 2798/74 Heading A2B Semi-moist cat food having a moisture content of 20 to 40%, a protein content of at least 30% a pH of 4 to 6, a water activity of 0.75 to 0.90 and a density of 0.25 to 0.43 oz./in<SP>3</SP>, comprises 10 to 65% of meat and/or meat by products, 1 to 10% polyhydric alcohol, 0.5 to 3.0% acid or acidic salt, 0.01 to 0.35% antimycotic and 0.1 to 14% sugar, the total amount of sugar and alcohol being less than 15%, and vegetable protein to adjust the total protein content to the required level. The meat and/or meat by-products are used in emulsified form, and may be e.g. pork lungs, poultry meal, meat and bone meal, chicken parts, fish meal, fish protein, or blood meal. The vegetable protein may be soy, wheat or oat flour. The polyhydrin alcohol has the general formula HOCH 2 (CHOH) m CH 2 OH where m is 0 to 6, or propylene glycol or 1, 3 butanediol. The acid may be lactic, adipic, succinic, phosphoric or hydrochloric, or acidic salts may be used (several are named). The antimycotic may be potassium sorbate or sorbic acid, or a benzoate, paraban, propionate or acetate. The sugar may be sucrose, glucose, dextrose or corn syrup. The ingredients are mixed, heated to 175 to 240‹F under pressure, and extruded to give a product of the required density. |
