Process of analyzing a specimen by subjecting it to a molecular diffusion sepn. procedure in an H2O-contg. solid medium, and causing the constituents of the specimen to react with a reagent in the medium is improved as follows: (a) a measured quantity of H2O-sol. or H2O-dispersible reagent (I) incorporated within a solid film of solid film-forming organic polymer binder (II) which has H2O-solubility is not 1% at 20 degrees is provided; (b) (b) one face of the film is placed in contact with the H2O-contg. solid medium and kept in this posn. for sufficient time for (I) and (II) to diffuse completely into the medium. Method facilitates the precise and quantitative introduction of a reagent into a solid H2O-contg. medium for use in molecular diffusion or affinity sepn. procedures. Partic. suitable for use with a thin layer medium. Device may also be used to introduce reagents into media used for culturing bacteria, and for histological staining by applying a stain-contng. device to tissue.
