1435330 Screw propeller W MINNICH 27 June 1973 [29 June 1972] 30601/73 Heading B7V In a marine screw propeller assembly comprising a streamlined body member 4 about which the propeller having hub 2 and blades 3 is relatively rotatable, the surface of the hub is so aligned that the hub and the body member together form a streamlined displacement body the axis of symmetry of which coincides with the axis of the propeller shaft 1. The curved leading edge 6b of each blade, which is longer than trailing edge 6a, extends forwardly of the hub and the ratio of the largest diameter of the body member to that of the propeller is greater than 0À6. In the embodiment of Fig. 6, rapid braking is achieved by extendable plates 14 which are radially slidable in slots 13 in the body member. The propeller assembly may also be used as a rotatable steering propeller unit, Fig. 7 (not shown). |
