1335685 Anti-static polymer compositions UNIROYAL Inc 15 Oct 1970 [17 Oct 1969] 49011/70 Headings C3G C3P and C3R [Also in Divisions B2 and D1] Polymer compositions contain as anti-static agent a mixture of (1) an alkali metal C 1-20 carboxylate and (2) a polyol or polyether glycol of M.W. 62-5000. Typical of many exemplified carboxylates are potassium formate, propionate, octanoate, tartrate, lactate, trichloroacetate, cyanoacetate and thiodiglycolate. Typical polyhydric alcohols are glycerine, ethylene glycol, polyethylene glycol of M.W. 600 and polypropylene glycol of M.W. 400 or 3600. In examples, suitable anti-static mixtures are added to (1) aqueous compositions based on carboxylated butadiene/styrene copolymer (60% styrene) and also containing sodium pentachlorophenoxide, alkylated para-cresol, tetrapotassium pyrophosphate, calcium carbonate or whiting, and sodium polyacrylate; (2) a sulphur-cured composition based on a blend of butadiene/acrylonitrile copolymer and a graft copolymer of acrylonitrile-styrene/butadiene-styrene (the total blend containing 58% butadiene) and also containing zinc oxide, titanium dioxide and dibutoxyethoxy ethyl formal; (3) a sulphur-cured composition based on ethylene / propylene / ethylidene norbornene terpolymer and also containing complexed aluminium silicate, hydrogenated naphthenic oil, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide and stearic acid; and (4) an uncured blend of butadiene/acrylonitrile copolymer and a graft copolymer of acrylonitrile - styrene / butadiene - styrene (the total blend containing 18% butadiene). Other polymers which may form the base of the compositions are mentioned, including polyacetates, polyethers, phenol/formaldehyde copolymers, polyesters, polyamides and polysulphones.
|
