Reductive dissociation of beta-sulpho gp. from beta-sulphoanthrquinone cpds. (I) contg. an -NH2 or -OH gp. in alpha-position is effected with hydrazine, in a basic medium. Products can be used as dyestuffs, e.g. anionic dyes, when contg. sulpho gps. or as intermediates for prepn. of further anthraquinone dyes.
