To prevent the formation of hydrogen when an electrolytic cell is short circuited, the flow of current in the circuit - galvanic anode/electrolyte/cathode, or in the case of a cell using an alkaline metal chloride, the flow in the galvanic circuit, anode/brine/cathode amalgam, is prevented simultaneously with the short circuiting of the cell. When the interruptor short circuits the cell, the feed to the anode is cut off by a second interruptor. This may also be effected by a three pole interruptor and there may be in the line to the anode a rectifying diode. System prevents the development of explosive mixts. of hydrogen and chlorine in alkaline batteries, and the redn of the lifetime of activated anodes together with the causing of fragility in them.
|
