<p>The solar collector consists of a heat exchanger, covered by a transparent material. Such exchangers are made of metal or plastic materials conditioned to have a strong absorption in the infra-red or visible regions of the spectrum. For this, varnish or soot may be applied as a layer, or a material can be mixed in. The transparent layer should prevent cooling of the collector by convection. It consists of a plate of glass or plastic material with a high transmission coefft. for wave-lengths 3 mu m and strong reflection for wave-lengths >3 mu m. The transparent material, the heat exchanger and distance pieces are inserted in a compact body formed of plastic foam. The collector is made by placing the transparent material, the exchanger, the distance pieces and a frame in a mould, closing the mould and filling it with foam. Cf. existing collectors, the collector is very efficient, is light and can be made easily and at low costs.</p> |
