Magnetic tape data protection system - uses ribbed ring which engages tape protection slot in spool

The magnetic tape protection system is incorporated in the base of the spool. It permits protection of the data on the tape by the to and fro movement of donal ring (4) in a slot. The ring (4) is fixed to ribs (2) which pass through the spool. These ribs are fixed to a ring (1) positioned in a slot at the base of the spool (3). Each rib (2) has a spring (6) fixed on it. A second removable ring (5) is screwed over the donal ring (4) into the spool (3). Fitting of this second ring (5) assures a pressure onto the donal ring ribs (2). This pressure compreses the springs (6) and displaces the donal ring (4) to the edge of the slot.
