1505431 Electro photographic zinc oxide BROKEN HILL PTY CO Ltd and LYSAGHT CHEMICAL CO PTY Ltd 1 April 1976 [11 April 1975] 13211/76 Heading C1A [Also in Division G2] Electro photographic grade zinc oxide is produced by treating zinc oxide with a gaseous unsaturated hydrocarbon having 3-5 carbon atoms and containing an alkene group. The compound is preferably propene, isoprene or butene. ZnO is preferably heated to 150-800‹C. for a period of two minutes-5 hours prior to treatment. Preferably the heat treated oxide is cooled to below 100‹C. before contact with the hydrocarbon which is usually present in the gas phase in amounts constituting not more than 2% of the atmosphere.
