<p>A method of feeding solid, powdery, granulated or crushed products into a reaction vessel which contains a combustible liq. and is rendered inert to prevent risk of fire is as follows. The solid materials are introduced through a funnel and a following feed tube into the reaction vessel; an inert gas is blown through nozzles situated at the transition between the funnel and the feed; some of these nozzles project the inert gas down towards the reaction vessel, while other nozzles project it upwards the funnel. Inert gas expansion equipment in the funnel reduces the gas pressure, while other equipment reduces the excess pressure in the reaction vessel. A full inert gas blanket is produced between the incoming solid materials and the flammable liq. e.g. solvent, inside the vessel, thus preventing any vapour from this solvent or other flammable liq. from ascending and causing an explosion or fire risk.</p> |
