Horizontal fluidized bed gasifier - with side slots in trays of successive sections between partitions on alternate sides

A fluidised-bed gasifier for a throughput of coal or coke and steam at high pressure is composed of several tubular shells, sepd. by partitions. Fluidised bed trays in each section have longitudinal slots along alternate sides; the solids and the gas travel from one to the next tray through separate passages. Coal and gasifying agent enters at one end plate, and ash and crude gas leave at the other. This saves steam because this is only needed for the first section, the other using crude gas. The flue dust is gasified in subsequent sections and only that from the last section needs to be collected.
