Readout of electrostatically charged image pattern - uses X:ray source with chamber and electrode in upper section

The read-out system consists of an electrode and means of forming an electrostatically charged image on the electrode. It is used to produce radiographics without the requirement of any sensitive film. The X-ray source produces electrons or ions which form the electrostatic image that is suitable for printing. The system is usually called ionography or electron radiography. The system consists of an X-ray source (15) with an image forming chamber (17) and the object (17) to be photographed mounted in front of the chamber. The electrode (21) is located in the upper section (20) of the image forming chamber. The electrode consists of a light conducting layer which receives the electrostatic charges. It can be converted to a non-conducting mode by exposing it to light. There is a second electrically conducting layer which is optically transparent. The second layer is connected to a memory which stores the information on the electrode.
