The time division multiple access (TDMA) satellite communications system avoids burst phase control by transmitting the frame synchronisation signal outside the TDMA frames formed by the stations. One station transmits the frame synchronisation signal outside the frequency band in which the stations transmit their bursts. All stations have means of receiving and evaluating the frame synchronisation. Alternatively, one station may transmit the frame signal in coded form within the TDMA frame but with a level so reduced that it causes no interference.
