Regenerative heat exchanger for ventilating systems - has drum constructed of different materials for heat and moisture transfer

The regenerator has a drum with many air passages within a thermal storage core. The drum rotates on a central shaft with half its cross section in the supply air stream and half in the exhaust air stream. Heat and mosture are thus transfered by means of the drum from one stream to the other. The drum is constructed of a sheet (23) which is wound in a spiral with the successive layers kept apart from each other by a corrugated strip (22) wound spirally with the sheet. The flat sheet (23) has hygroscopic properties for moisture exchange and the corrugated strip (22) has thermal characteristics for sensible heat exchange. This enables latent and sensible heat exchange to be controlled independently of each other.
