Alpha-cyano-(m)-phenoxybenzyl spiro-(2,4)-heptane-(1)-carboxylates - for use as insecticides and acaricides

New spiro(2,4)heptane-1-carboxylate esters are of formula (I). In (I), R1 is Et, n-Pr, i-Pr, n-Bu, i-Bu or s-Bu. Cpds. (I) are insecticides and acaricides, e.g. active as stomach poisons against larvae of Spodoptera littoralis and Heliothis virescens, and as contact poisons against Aphis fabae. In an example, (I; R1 = Et) is prepd. from 6-ethyl-6-methyl-fulvene.
