To provide moist control the surface ventilated motor (1) is covered by an axial hood (4) lined with sound absorbent material. - At the air inlet end an absorbtion type sound damper is provided comprising two parallel vertical walls (6, 7) the inner one (6) being attached to the machine fan housing. Both are isolated from the floor by anti-vibration mountings (9), and are joined together by perforated metal screens (5). - Both vertical walls are covered with sound absorbent cladding which may cover both surfaces of the inner wall (6). In addition wedge shaped blocks of absorbent material may also be placed between the walls and be attached to both. The absorbent material is typically mineral wool protected with glass cloth and a perforated metal case.
