1488494 Rollers METZELER SCHAUM GmbH 22 Nov 1974 [22 Nov 1973 14 May 1974] 50720/74 Heading F2U A roller comprises a shaft 10 on which a pair of annular members 14 are mounted by spokes 12, strips 19 of fibre-glass fabric extending parallel to the axis of shaft 10 are adhered to and extend between the members 14 and have a settable synthetic resin applied to them, a layer (or layers) of helically wound strips of fibre-glass 24, each impregnated with settable synthetic resin, then being applied to form an accurate cylindrical shape, a reinforcing girdle of helically wrapped wire or tape 32 then being optionally applied before a finishing coat 25 of settable synthetic resin is applied. The coating 25 may be machined to give a desired finish or a yet further coat 33 can be applied and given a desired surface profile 29 by an embossing roll 34. An interchangeable sheet may be used in place of coat 33. Spacing elements 31, used as stiffeners during assembly may be removed from the finished roller. The annular end-members 14 each comprise an assembly of U-shaped cross-section members to provide an annular space which is filled with plastics material, possibly reinforced with glass fibres, the filling being smoothed and levelled at the surface 16. The shaft 10 is shown in two parts. The roller may be used in coating or for applying materials to carpets, floor coverings, textiles, woven, knitted or braided goods, paper or cardboard for dyeing or cleaning. |
