1488228 Electrolytic capacitors SPRAGUE ELECTRIC CO 24 March 1976 [21 April 1975] 11879/76 Heading H1M A method of manufacturing a solid electrolytic capacitor comprises impregnating an anodized valve metal pellet with a manganese salt solution and pyrolysing to form a layer of manganese dioxide, applying to the coated pellet a coating of a thixotropic mixture comprising a manganese salt solution and finely divided solid particles, immersing the coated pellet while wet into a fluidized bed containing coarse manganese dioxide particles of average size greater than 30 microns, heating the coated pellet to pyrolyse the manganese salt to manganese dioxide, the coarse manganese dioxide particles providing a rough surface for bonding to a counter-electrode layer. The finely divided solid particles may be colloidal manganese dioxide optionally mixed with colloidal silica. The wet coated pellet for immersion in the fluidized bed may have been partially dried, or submitted to pyrolysis then rewetted with manganese salt solution. |
