<p>1442732 Drying vegetation B INGVALDSEN 15 March 1974 [23 March 1973] 11762/74 Heading F4G The invention comprises a process and apparatus for drying, e.g. young grass, having a high moisture content. The process consists of forcing substantially uniformly distributed air through a stationary thick bed of the grass using first unheated and then heated air of which latter the relative humidity is at most 35%, so that when the drying front has advanced through the bed the major inner layer thereof has a moisture content of about 12% and the outer layer an increasing moisture content of up to about 65%, the humidity of the air emerging from the bed still approximating to 100%. The apparatus includes a grid 1 supporting the grass, a blower 2 forcing the air through the grid and grass, an air conduit 4 with an inlet 10 facing away from the grid and an outlet 3 housing the blower 2, around which outlet is a chamber formed by the sloping walls of the grid. A fence 8 may be situated around the grid to prevent moist air entering the inlet 10. The grid surfaces may be made in sections, and the heater 12 and conduit 4 may be common to two or more grids and supplying heated air to one at a time.</p> |
