The sample (1) of the work to be produced is mounted between centres (9) along the base of the machine bed (5). The workpiece (8) is mounted between centres on top. Control push buttons (10, 11) are fitted on the top of the saddle apron (12) and are used to initiate the cycle. The cutting tool (38) being set to the first diameter, the first length is cut. A feeler (13) stopping the longitudinal movement when it reaches a shoulder (14). The traverse (23) moves to reposition the tool and the new diameter is cut to the next shoulder, the cycle recommencing. Control is by lever operated microswitches and magnetic clutches.
