Block is of hollow section and has upper and lower faces of different width. Alternate rows of blocks are inverted with respect to the adjoining row. The wider face forms a lip along each side upon which the block in an adjoining row rests, this being identical to the first block but inverted. Similarly on the end faces, the block is stepped. On one side the wide lower face projects forward giving a free face with an intermediate step above. On the other side, this is reversed with the narrow face projecting outwards. The two faces of adjoining blocks in one row interlock. Thus in both planes, adjoining blocks and rows of blocks interlock. Process provides refractory linings in fired industrial furnaces. The interlocking system permits shrinkage without causing gaps int the structure through which radiation can escape.
|
